The Green Hornet (3D) (12A) *** Starring: Seth Rogen, Jay Chou, Cameron Diaz, Cristoph Waltz. Dir: Michel Gondry.
For a more serious superhero film, you may want to wait for Thor to come out on April 29. For a really good laugh, with hyperbole by the bucketful, The Green Hornet is definitely one to watch.
Following Britt Reid (Rogen), the party animal son of media mogul James Reid (Tom Wilkinson, The Full Monty, Burke and Hare), after whose death he discovers techno-king and martial arts expert Kato (Chou) and they team up to become superhero's with a twist. They pose as villains to bring them down, getting advice from new secretary at the Sentinel as to where and what there next move will be.
Rogen delivers a brilliantly inept and equally arrogant Britt, who is helped at almost every stage by Chou's amazing intelligence and fighting skills, which creates a Wallace and Gromit-like relationship.
The film almost borders on parody, with the stereotypically quirky Russian crime lord Chudnofsky (Waltz), who is one minute in your face psychotic with his double barrelled pistol for shooting two goons at once, and a laughable, almost Dr. Evil-esque character the next.
Disappointingly, despite the film being advertised as 3D, it didn't really seem to have as much effect as in other films, and was barely noticeable apart from in a few scenes which, all in all, didn't take anything from the viewing experience, and is definitely worth a watch.
I agree with you pretty much with this film, it was a reasonably entertaining super-hero film with more of a anti-hero lead and didn't need the 3D.
ReplyDeleteThe reason the 3D doesn't look as good as other films is because, like Clash of the Titans it was fake 3D, shot in 2D and then converted to 3D in post production.
